    POSITION SUMMARY

    ND Landscape Service's sister company, Grassmaster Plus, Inc. has been providing Full-Service Lawn and Plant Health Care for clients in the North Shore and Metro North since 1980. We are seeking to hire an Operations Manager, who will be a true thought partner, alongside the President and the CEO, to positively influence the company direction and strategy in a proactive manner. The Operations Manager will develop systems and processes to attract and retain our dynamic team of technicians and ensure safety, quality, and efficiency for our staff and customers. This position is also responsible for the management of materials, inventory, scheduling, fleet and managing equipment repair and maintenance, and the annual budget.

    ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Develop and implement successful recruitment and onboarding strategies to attract and hire qualified technicians by utilizing job advertisements, conducting interviews, and implementing a robust onboarding program.
    • Develop and manage all aspects of staff development to retain and support our top talent by implementing effective training programs, conducting weekly staff meetings, providing mentorship, improving retention efforts, and creating a positive and inclusive work environment.
    • Monitor and review the performance of staff against annually set production goals and organize necessary interventions for improvement.
    • Establish systems and processes for managing inventory, tracking materials and enforcing safety, quality and efficiency protocols.
    • Evaluate and improve efficiency in technician scheduling and routing by utilizing technology and route planning software.
    • Oversee the management and maintenance of the company’s fleet of vehicles, power equipment and small tools.
    • Develop and maintain the annual budget by utilizing financial information, analysis, and recommendations for cost-saving measures, while maintaining safety and customer satisfaction.
    • Follow and enforce all established policies, procedures, and recognized practices.

    7. Establish and implement effective stocking processes to maintain the proper seasonal parts inventory.

    8. Maintains daily shop and yard cleanliness and organization.

    9. Maintains service logs and records of preventative maintenance and repairs for all equipment and vehicles.

    10. Contribute to our company by sharing ideas, strategies, and challenges.

    11. Attends weekly team meetings.

    12. Provides excellent service (e.g.: accurate, complete, and timely) to vendors, work-site partners, and company team members in a courteous and efficient manner.

    Qualification Requirements

    1. At least four (4) plus years related work experience with general fleet and equipment maintenance and repair experience.

    2. Must possess a strong mechanical skill set including knowledge of basic electrical systems, hydraulic systems, mower technology and engines, 2-cycle engines.

    3. Fabrication welding experience.

    4. Self-driven to develop personal knowledge to grow and improve skills and expertise.

    5. Valid driver’s and hydraulics license required.

Under the direction of the Park and Tree Superintendent, the Assistant Superintendent is responsible for the management and implementation of the Park and Tree Program. The incumbent plans, schedules and directs the day to day operations of the Park and Tree Program and serves as advisor and liaison in coordinating programs with other Town boards and commissions, and members of the public. In the absence of or as delegated by the Park and Tree Superintendent, the incumbent also serves as Town Arborist and Deputy Tree Warden for the Natural Resources Commission and is responsible for the administration of MGL Chapters 45, 87 & 132.

    Requirements

     BS degree in Arboriculture, Urban Forestry, Park Administration or equivalent; a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in Arboriculture and Landscape Management or equivalent; Massachusetts Pesticide License for Right of Ways Category #40; Massachusetts Certified Arborist, Massachusetts Certified Landscape Professional or International Society of Arboriculture Certified Arborist; training and/or experience in hazard tree identification and training and/or experience in electric distribution tree clearance programs. A working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, email and Internet, along with effective leadership skills, experience in dealing with the public, the ability to communicate clearly orally and in writing and strong time management and organizational skills are also required. 

    Preferred

    Valid MA Class B CDL, hoisting engineer’s license, knowledge of GIS, knowledge in lake management and treatment techniques, knowledge in Athletic Field and Playground Equipment Maintenance Programs, experience in dealing with the media, making technical presentations at professional and public meetings and testifying as an expert witness.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Responsible for the daily care and maintenance of the campus grounds. Example responsibilities include maintenance of: athletic fields, lawns, meadows, plantings, container nursery, roadways, nature trails, irrigation systems, greenhouses. The Landscape Foreperson is directly involved with snow removal. Responsibilities will also include preventive maintenance and repair of facilities and equipment utilized in those duties. The Landscape Foreperson is responsible for student worker oversight, safety and training, in addition to record keeping. May be assigned to any campus wide maintenance project as per direction of the facilities Director, Landscape,Arboriculture, or Floriculture department chairperson and/or designee.

    GENERAL STATEMENT OF QUALIFICATIONS

    A minimum of three years in a supervisory capacity in the field(s) of, landscape maintenance/construction, nursery production, greenhouse management, arboriculture or related fields. The following credentials will be preferred:

    • Associate Degree or higher in Horticulture
    • MCLP/MCH is preferred
    • ISA Certification is preferred
    • Satisfactory completion of Green School is preferred
    • Two Years to receive certifications

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Proven ability to organize and supervise student-aged work crews.
    • Proven expertise in grounds maintenance and common plant identification.
    • Proven expertise in the operation of landscape equipment, maintenance and repairs.
    • Athletic and Lawn area Turf Management
    • Working knowledge of nursery operations, handling plant material, landscape construction and greenhouse management.
    • Proven ability to develop work schedules, preventive maintenance management, communication through technology (basic Google and Microsoft skills required).
    • Proven ability to manage and repair irrigation systems.
    • Proven ability to work independently without direct supervision.
    • Basic record keeping skills (student payroll, preventive maintenance records, spray records, inventory etc.).
    • Valid driver’s license – CDL preferred
    • Valid Massachusetts Pesticide Applicators License.
    • Hoisting License 2a, 1c
    • Assist vocational instructors in vocational education related activities.
    • Willingness to learn and be part of a team.

    COMPENSATION

    As per 7 Step pay scale – Job Group 14. Paid earned sick leave, vacations, holidays and personal days as per Bristol County Agricultural H.S. Support Staff Contract.
