Creating Landscapes that Thrive in a Changing Climate
The realities of climate change are reshaping how we design, build, and maintain landscapes. From rising temperatures and shifting precipitation patterns to increased pest pressures and extreme weather events, today’s professionals must adapt their practices to ensure resilient and sustainable landscapes. We will explore strategies for selecting climate-appropriate plants, improving soil health, and integrating water-wise design. You will learn practical approaches to enhance ecosystem services, reduce long-term maintenance challenges, and create landscapes that are not only beautiful but also built to endure and flourish in the face of environmental change.

Trevor Smith is Director of Design and Education for the ReEarth Studio at Social Impact Collective in Boston. An award-winning landscape designer, specializing in green infrastructure, native plant design, habitat creation, and implementation of ecological design principles. Mr. Smith holds several landscape certifications, including MCH, NOFA AOLCP, LEED GA, and IPCI, and he is also a past President of the Ecological Landscape Alliance and a current Trustee.
