Town of Wellesley Department of Public Works - Assistant Superintendent, Park & Tree

The Town of Wellesley Department of Public Works is seeking an Assistant Superintendent for the Park and Tree Division. Under the direction of the Park and Tree Superintendent, the Assistant Superintendent is responsible for the management and implementation of the Park and Tree Program. The incumbent plans, schedules and directs the day to day operations of the Park and Tree Program and serves as advisor and liaison in coordinating programs with other Town boards and commissions, and members of the public. In the absence of or as delegated by the Park and Tree Superintendent, the incumbent also serves as Town Arborist and Deputy Tree Warden for the Natural Resources Commission and is responsible for the administration of MGL Chapters 45, 87 & 132.

Requirements

 BS degree in Arboriculture, Urban Forestry, Park Administration or equivalent; a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in Arboriculture and Landscape Management or equivalent; Massachusetts Pesticide License for Right of Ways Category #40; Massachusetts Certified Arborist, Massachusetts Certified Landscape Professional or International Society of Arboriculture Certified Arborist; training and/or experience in hazard tree identification and training and/or experience in electric distribution tree clearance programs. A working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, email and Internet, along with effective leadership skills, experience in dealing with the public, the ability to communicate clearly orally and in writing and strong time management and organizational skills are also required. 

Preferred

Valid MA Class B CDL, hoisting engineer’s license, knowledge of GIS, knowledge in lake management and treatment techniques, knowledge in Athletic Field and Playground Equipment Maintenance Programs, experience in dealing with the media, making technical presentations at professional and public meetings and testifying as an expert witness.
