Strategies to Control Problematic Lawn Weeds

Learn the benefits of taking an integrated approach to managing certain problematic weeds of lawns and landscapes. We’ll discuss how various management practices including mowing, fertilization, irrigation and herbicides can work together to interrupt weed life cycles to yield the best control. Economical strategies that utilize herbicides and fewer pesticide inputs as part of an integrated weed management program will be emphasized.

Matt Elmore is the weed science extension specialist in turfgrass, landscapes, pastures and forages at Rutgers. He earned his B.S. in Turfgrass Science from Penn State University before moving south and earning an M.S. and Ph.D. from the University of Tennessee with a focus in turfgrass weed control. Prior to joining Rutgers, Matt was a Turfgrass Extension Specialist for Texas A&M in Dallas, TX. His program at Rutgers focuses on novel strategies to control weeds with fewer pesticide inputs, as well as significant efforts to develop alternatives to synthetic pesticides and understanding the influence of management practices on weed competitiveness.
