Problem Solving Groundcovers

Stumped for alternative groundcovers for the shade? Tired of the same old junipers for sunny slopes? Looking for a pop of color in a groundcover? Here’s a chance to broaden your palette, leaving behind the usual juniper, pachysandra, and vinca for a host of other plants that serve as functional and beautiful groundcovers.   From the limey soil of the Berkshires to the sandy soil of Martha’s Vineyard, Joann will offer alternative groundcovers for a variety of conditions. She will share images, key features and cultural requirements for both woody and herbaceous groundcovers that are suited to challenging situations and fill specific niches.

This is the first in a periodic series that will offer inspired tree, shrub and plant recommendations while highlighting The Trustees’ beautiful public gardens across the state.
