Creating a Modern Workforce: A 21st Century Approach to Management

Peter Drucker, the father of modern management, said "Culture eats strategy for breakfast."  Companies must face this fact and learn to truly lead in order to survive.  We’ll take an in-depth look at the factors that have formed the modern employee and learn why a real commitment to people is a necessity for business survival. Take away practical, data-driven techniques to dramatically increase employee engagement that will result in increased sales, profitability, and retention.

- Consider what makes this generation of employees different from the past
- Find out why recruitment is too expensive and virtually ineffective
- Discover why management styles that have worked for 200 years suddenly don’t
- Learn how to develop your people and get the best from every employee

Solving the "people problem" is the underlying factor to every business hurdle and frustration today.  While pressing issues in the past have focused on sales, profitability, or recruitment, we are operating in a new economy and management ability is the essential key to success.

 Afternoon Session: 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Strengths Based Leadership: The Ultimate Tool for Determining How & Why People Like to Work
Optional session for Full Day registrants only

The key to high performance coaching is to understand, accept, and meet underlying psychological needs.  These needs are very unique - the odds of having the same top five "need" results in the same order as someone else are 1 in 33 million!  So how can we find out?  With a simple $20 assessment tool called StrengthsFinder.

We’ll explore real examples of how meeting the individual needs of your people creates a company culture that brings dramatic improvement across key business performance metrics.  Learn the role the StrengthsFinder tool plays in high-performance coaching. You’ll leave this workshop with simple ideas to implement and improve your business immediately.

*Note: You will receive the most benefit from this workshop if you take your own assessment ahead of time.  Email for more details. Session for full day registrants only.  Approved for 1 CSP and 1 NOFA Recertification Credit.

Proper Pruning of Mature Conifers
When pruning conifers it is important to ask yourself why, as conifers don’t replace growth like other trees and shrubs; so pruning is always done for a particular purpose. Massachusetts Certified Arborist, Scott McPhee will tackle pruning a beautiful, old Japanese Pine that is in need of some rehabilitative care. Learn why and how to make the right cuts for the right reasons.

Underutilized Strategies for Managing Landscape & Turf Weeds
This presentation will examine herbicide products and management strategies that are often underutilized by landscape professionals. Whether new to the market or an old standard, a better understanding of these unique tools can dramatically improve your weed management programs. We'll spend some time on "Weed ID" and see examples of problems you may encounter in your clients' landscapes. Target weeds and application timings will also be discussed.
