This practical session explores why winter can be an ideal time to prune shrubs and small ornamental trees, as well as how proper pruning can improve plant health while creating valuable off-season work for your well-trained landscape crews.

Led by veteran arborist, Scott McPhee, the session will move beyond simply where to make the cut to explain the why behind each pruning decision. Through demonstrations and concrete examples, attendees will learn:

Which small trees and shrubs benefit most from dormant pruning
How to evaluate plant structure and determine what should (and shouldn’t) be removed
Common pruning mistakes and how to avoid them
How dormant pruning can reduce spring workloads and help crews get ahead of the season
Ways to turn dormant season pruning into a valuable winter service for customers and your business

Exam registrations must be cancelled 2 weeks or more prior to the exam date for a full refund. Exams cancelled with less than 2 weeks notice may not be eligible for a refund.
